May 28th 2009 Meeting Recap

Great meeting last night.  I learned a lot about the great tools that Metalogix provides as well knowing more about USPM 2007.  A big thanks goes out to our guest speakers Jeremy Davis from Metalogix and Chris Gerchak from Statera.  Chris had some trouble with his VPC, but has promised to record his demo and let us post it on the site for those who may have missed out.  You can find the presentations from last night in the May28th 2009 Meeting folder.  A big thanks also goes out to the 30+ members that joined us in person.  See you all on the 25th of June.

Tonight's AZSPG Meeting

I'm super excited about tonight's meeting.  During my travels to Las Vegas over the past couple of days, I came across a customer that has been using Metalogix to migrate their WSS 2.0 environment to WSS 3.0 and reorganize many of their subsites into site collections.  They were huge advocates of Metalogix Migration Manager and boasted about how easy it was to do their upgrade.

In addition, one of the biggest questions I get from customers when visit is "Are there better tools to help us manage our farm?".  I'm really excited to see Chris Gerchak demonstrate one of those tools tonight when he shows us how iDevFactory's USPM 2007.  This is going to be a great meeting.  Don't miss out!!!

Important Information on SP2

If you haven't seen the announcement concerning the product expiration date issue in SP2, please read the following announcement http://blogs.msdn.com/sharepoint/archive/2009/05/21/attention-important-information-on-service-pack-2.aspx.   I would recommend holding off SP2 deployment until a fix is released.  I've seen several threads that indicate re-entering your product key has failed.  A fix should be available soon.

AIC Lunch-and-Learn Seminar Announcement

Featured Speaker:  Shawn Beeson

Session Overview:

SharePoint Development in an Agile Environment

Shawn Beeson, a Senior Consultant with AIC, an expert in SharePoint development and a certified Scrum Master, will be presenting on how to best develop applications in a SharePoint environment while leveraging the benefits of the Agile Methodology.  This is an open forum and attendees are encouraged to participate by asking Shawn questions during the presentation that are relevant to their specific needs.

The discussion will begin with a brief overview of Agile environments, practices, and concepts and continue with some of the historical problems with SharePoint “Team Development” projects using case studies as examples.  Shawn will discuss the tools that Microsoft provides to support SharePoint development such as WSS 3.0, published guidance from Microsoft’s Patterns & Practices group, and virtualization.

Shawn will also discuss how to build a great team and the processes that should be in place to obtain the best results.  These recommendations are based on best practices and heavy industry experience.  Shawn will demo an example of a large scale implementation that he was a part of to show what is possible when best practices are combined with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) to provide the most value for end users and maximize ROI for the company.
